Jason Sudeikis and Hannah Waddingham teamed up for a Ted Lasso reunion and took on a powerful movie musical number in the process: “Shallow,” from the 2018 adaptation of A Star is Born.
The performance took place at the Steps of Faith’s seventh annual variety show fundraiser Thundergong!, which raised funds for amputees in need of prosthetic limbs and financial aid. Sudeikis hosted the event in his hometown of Kansas City on Saturday night (Nov. 11) and began the song with his former Saturday Night Live co-star, Will Forte, per Deadline.
“There is nobody I’d rather sing this song with,” he told Forte just before the music began. Sudeikis belted out Bradley Cooper‘s intro, and as Forte went to start Lady Gaga‘s verse, Waddingham’s vocals flooded the theater.
The Emmy award-winning actress pushed Forte away and dominated the stage, and ultimately, Forte exited and Sudeikis joined his Ted Lasso co-star for the rest of the duet.
Speaking in a hoarse voice during her Monday morning (Nov. 13) appearance on The View, Waddingham brought up her dynamic duet with Sudeikis.
“As you can hear, it was quite a lot of fun,” she quipped. “I decided I was a rock star for the night, hence sounding quite like a drag queen today.”
According to ABC’s Kansas City local news station KMBC 9, the event set a fundraising record by raising more than $800,000.
