This week there are plenty of great new movies on VOD, including the art world crime thriller The Kill Room, starring Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson, as well as Kenneth Branagh’s third outing as detective Hercule Poirot in A Haunting in Venice.
Also on demand this week is Outlaw Johnny Black, a satirical comedy western that serves as a follow-up to 2009’s action-comedy spoof Black Dynamite. Both films star Michael Jai White, who has also written and directed them. White stars as the titular Johnny Black, a man with a plan to kill the man who murdered his father. To do so, he steals the identity of a preacher (Byron Minns) and settles in to a new secret life in order to avenge his father’s death. Anika Noni Rose, Erica Ash, and Barry Bostwick co-star.
These are just a few of the titles that are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, YouTube, and through your cable service this week. Check out what movies are available to buy or rent on demand now.
The Kill Room
The Kill Room, from director Nicol Paone, reunites Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson for an art-world thriller where Thurman’s Patrice, an art gallery owner, gets sucked into a money laundering scheme. When upstanding Patrice partners up with Jackson’s character, Gordon, and Joe Manganiello’s hit man Reggie, the plan is for her art gallery to serve as a front for fake artwork painted by Reggie. When the artwork becomes a sensation in the art world, their low-profile scam accidentally thrusts them into a spotlight that threatens to expose them.
A Haunting in Venice
I’m not sure I ever would have envisioned a movie that stars Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Dornan, Kenneth Branagh and Tina Fey, but Branagh has assembled an eclectic ensemble for his latest Hercule Poirot film, A Haunting in Venice. Based on Agatha Christie’s Hallowe’en Party, the movie arrived on demand on October 31 and serves up a deathly dinner party and seance where the guests are hunted by a mystery killer.
