New Movies & Shows To Stream This Weekend: Red, White & Royal Blue, Painkiller, Billions + More
The charming romance novel Red, White & Royal Blue, about two high-profile eligible bachelors who can’t help but fall in love despite their initial disgust with one another, premieres this week on Prime Video. Also out this week is the final season of Billions, which premieres on Paramount+ with Showtime this Friday, and the new Netflix limited series Painkiller, which explains how America’s opioid crisis was aided and abetted by the rich and powerful.
New on Prime Video August 11: Red, White & Royal Blue
Prime Video’s new romantic comedy Red, White & Royal Blue is based on the beloved best-selling novel of the same name by Casey McQuiston. In the film, Taylor Zakhar Perez stars as Alex, the son of the U.S. President, and Nicholas Galitzine as a British prince named Henry who hate each other and then – spoiler alert! – they fall in love. And then – spoiler alert! – they have to try to keep their romance a secret from the hungry eyes of the press. Oh, and one last spoiler alert!: Uma Thurman stars as Alex’s mother, President Ellen Claremont, while Stephen Fry plays Henry’s father, King James III.
New on Paramount+ With Showtime August 11: Billions (Season 7)
For six seasons, Billions has been one of Showtime’s flagship dramas, and starting August 11, it’s about to draw to a close. The final season will stream on Paramount+ with Showtime, with new episodes streaming on Fridays, or you can watch Sunday nights on Showtime. This season also marks the return of everyone’s favorite rich guy Bobby Axelrod (Damien Lewis) who was absent for season six since he was, naturally, hiding out in Switzerland. Between Bobby’s return and Mike Prince (Corey Stoll) running for President, Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti) sure has his work cut out for himself.
New on Netflix August 10: Painkiller
Netflix’s Painkiller is a new series that depicts the rise of America’s opioid crisis and all of the people, from the Sackler family to politicians and pharmaceutical companies, who contributed to the rampant sales and abuse of OxyContin. Ferris Bueller himself, Matthew Broderick, stars as one of the key villains of the story, Richard Sackler, whose greed and indifference helped create one of the worst drug epidemics in recent years. All six episodes of Painkiller drop this Friday.
